A mid-20th century Showa Era style retro shopping arcade stretches through the area close to the station in Katsushika Ward's Tateishi. Amidst streets with an old-style downtown atmosphere, the Tateishi area has been experiencing redevelopment, and has become noteworthy for its new ambiance fusing modern and retro. Tenukuri Studio has stood here since 1889, and it is the only place within Tokyo where chusen stencil dyeing hand towels can be created using the norioki process. In the activity, you can take home two absolutely unique and original chusen stencil dyeing hand towels that you have created and use them to vividly enrich your daily life by putting them up as tapestries or drying dishes. Experience the charm of traditional hand towels that have been used in Japan since the Heian period.
